Genre categories. Volunteers now wanted!
Following on from the thread "Genre categories. Your views wanted", we're now looking for volunteers to test the proposed new system for classifying works based on their instrumentation, which is described on the project page below: http://imslp.org/wiki/User:P.davydov/Genre_Categories Thi...

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!
Hi Steltz. Yes, that search worked because the word "Sonata" is in the title. Feldmahler has indicated that we can have more than one genre category per work, e.g. one for the instrumentation, one for the 'type' (like sonata), and maybe others that have been suggested (like 'children's mus...

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!
In response to the above postings I've added "Teaching Methods" to the list under the "Books" meta-genre. The technical whizzes will have to tell us whether it's logistically possible to have two or more genre categories per work, but I suspect the answer will be that the main on...

Re: Paul Hindemith
Hello. For copyright reasons we aren't able to include works by composers who died less than 50 years ago. Paul Hindemith only died in 1963, which is why we don't have anything by him yet. Sorry

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!
That's a good realization of this- but that would require a much more specific 'instrumentation' category mechanism (i.e. in place of the non-categorized text field). Which would also theoretically require quite a lot of cleanup work... Perhaps not as much as one might think (there are ways of spee...

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!
I don't think we should go so far as to invent new musical terms where there are existing ones that already do the job (i.e. "Concertante Pieces"). But if the objective is to be able to find, say, all works written for violin soloist with orchestra, then why not have a category for that, e...

Re: Anton Rubinstein Op.18
The Cello Sonata seems to be the correct Op.18 (according to Grove and Hofmeister), with "Der Kinde" being published without opus number. I've renamed the latter accordingly...

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!
Style, genre, and instrumentation are each different ways of categorizing pieces of music, and should not be thought of as interchangeable. Waltzes (a genre), for instance, come in different styles and instrumentations. At the moment they are being used interchangeably, so this is an opportunity to...

Re: [BUG] nasty new work page
Hi Coulonnus. There was a " } " missing from the " {{flat}} " template that confused the system, but it's fixed now. It also appears on the category page for Lefébure-Wély, but there are messages elsewhere in the forum reporting problems with works not showing up right away, or o...

Re: Genre categories. Your views wanted!
Hi Steltz. You're right that there are many works which could be placed into either of the "Concerto" or "Symphonic Piece with Soloist" categories. I can see that if we confined the "Concerto" genre to works with the word "Concerto" in the title, then this mig...

Re: pseudonym v. real name
Thanks for that information, and I've added the alias to Molbe's page. ("Freiherr" was an honorary title rather than his birth name, so I've enclosed that in brackets). I've left the blue box there, as we still need exact dates of birth and death, or biography links. Regarding pseudonyms i...

Hi Aldona. It looks like the second set of files just overwrote the first set, but I've removed the duplicate entries on the work page.
