Re: Composer page does not exist with Josquin
Looking at the "preferred forms" of the composer's names on http://www.viaf.org chosen by various national libraries, we have: Josquin des Prez, c. 1440-1521 ?[va] Deprès, Josquin, 1450-1521? ?[pt] Des Prés, Josquin ca. 1440-1521 ?[es] Josquin Desprez 1440-1521 ?[de] Josquin Des Prés 1440?...

Re: Heinrich Albert and Heinrich Albert
Unfortunately that's not the case. The LC authority shows: Albert, Heinrich, 1604-1651 Albert, Heinrich, 1870-1950 There are no alternative names given in the LC catalogue (although the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek lists "Henricus Albertus" as an alternative to the main heading of "Alb...

Re: Composer page does not exist with Josquin
Hmm. That raises the question of how the other nine works for this composer were uploaded... Some of them were uploaded with the composer as "Prez, Josquin des", and then renamed, while the others were done (somehow) with the current composer name of "Josquin Desprez". Strange! A...

Re: Composer page does not exist with Josquin
Hello Ctesibius, If there isn't already a page for the composition then you can create one by going to the composer page for Josquin Desprez at: http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Josquin_Desprez ... and clicking on the link that says "Add a piece to this composer page" (near the top), and the...

Re: Category:Composer Stubs
Good idea. This new source for names might be useful in identifying some of the more obscure composers:

Hello Tony,
It's the duet in Act I (No. 7) that you're looking for. Hope this helps.

Re: Bug http://imslp.org/wiki/Serenade_for_String_Quartet_BI_400
A space was missing between the work title and "(Rollo, Allesandro)", meaning that the system couldn't identify the composer. It should be OK now.

Re: Proposed new genres
I appreciate your comments, Feldmahler. I'd agree that we're further forward than when we started, and the discussion has been useful, but the stage where we can say "Here's how the new system should work ... now over to the programmers" remains some way off. If there were a simple solutio...

Re: Proposed new genres
I won't go into details here, but let's just say it became clear that the new system didn't have the support it needed to be implemented. Of course I'm disappointed, but if anyone else wants to build on those ideas, or to come up with something completely different, then they're welcome to continue ...

Re: Proposed new genres
The new genre system will require the broad acceptance of the IMSLP users as well as the co-operation of the site's programmers. I must accept that my ideas so far have failed to meet both requirements, and so I'm formally withdrawing all the proposals. The floor is now clear for anyone else to put ...

Re: Proposed new genres
Thanks for those comments, Carolus. It's best not to think of the work types them as second-level categories, as they're independent from the 8 main categories, and not subsets of them. And yes, there will be lots of them! With almost 18,000 works on IMSLP, we can sort them into as many work types a...

Re: Proposed new genres
One more reason to use a hierarchical framework, is that if an uploader isn't sure how to categorize a work, (i.e. Operetta vs. Opera), they can put it in a higher level category, (i.e. Vocal Stage Works), from where it can be discussed and sorted out. Operalala, that issue has already been address...

Re: Proposed new genres
We have standard categories that are intuitive, instinctive, and in widespread use - users will expect to see them, and these standard categories are not in widespread use for no reason at all. I'm not quite sure what that means :? . But there will be a work-type category showing all the operas, an...

Re: Proposed new genres
If you were looking for a list of ballets, you could not count on the the obvious category "Ballet" to contain what you were looking for - you'd have to sift through everything in "Stage Works" for all the ballets not included in the optional "Ballet" category. While I...

Re: Proposed new genres
Any further comments on where in the listing a concert band group would go? It seems like a really good idea, but it doesn't really belong as a section under orchestral works. The orchestral category will include string orchestras, wind ensembles, and bands, as well as large and small symphony orch...
