Re: William Herschel, organ works, Edinburgh
That's what I thought, yes: attributing them in the "scanned by" field should be enough, since it doesn't seem to be obligatory for the form to be included in the pdf, and there's no mentioning of it being mandatory for the pdf to be re-published as a whole. It says "share and adapt&q...

Re: William Herschel, organ works, Edinburgh
That's great news, Coulonnus. I took the liberty of creating pages for these pieces and editing and uploading the scores. http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Herschel,_William It's interesting, sometimes really captivating music - and a big plus is that most pieces can be played directly from the clean w...

Re: Weird "Live MIDI" bug
It appears to be a known issue: http://imslpforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=8002&p=39483 http://imslpforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7957&p=39271#p39614 Right now, I'd say this buggy feature vandalizes people's work pages, specially since there's no rating system attached to these fil...

Weird "Live MIDI" bug
My page http://imslp.org/wiki/Wind_Quintet,_Op.161_%28Peters,_Rob%29 which I created yesterday suddenly has two MIDI files associated with it, with completely different music (and actually older than the page itself...) Can't see who added them, and I don't see the data when I try editing the piece....

Re: Firefox warning message
Same here, same Firefox version.
I can't see why IMSLP needs flash to run, unless it's something to do with the new youtube channel - in which case I'd prefer media NOT to run automatically when I open the site. And certainly not using old flash versions, which are swiss cheeses, security-wise.

Re: J. S. Bach Manuscript
I recently scanned and uploaded the manuscript of Bach's Musikalisches Opfer, also a 70's Peters edition, clearly PD everywhere.
As long as you don't include any editorial notes, preface etc. you're fine, I guess.
Which manuscript is it, btw?

Re: Rheinberger Op.123
Hm... I'm now comparing the Martin Weyer editions of some of the opus 123 pieces to those of Lloyd Webber, and it appears that Weyer's contain even more editorial additions (not only articulations and dynamics, but also registrations.) It's unfortunate that this is all such a gray zone. In these cas...

Rheinberger Op.123
I'm wondering if it's ok to upload these pieces from Sibley: https://urresearch.rochester.edu/institutionalPublicationPublicView.action?institutionalItemId=16839 https://urresearch.rochester.edu/institutionalPublicationPublicView.action?institutionalItemId=25893 (2 x 2 volumes of music) It would be ...

Re: Composition Inspired by Copyrighted Literature
I've got a similar case in my work list: http://imslp.org/wiki/Suite_for_Clarinet_and_Piano,_Op.88_%28Peters,_Rob%29 I composed this piece originally as a "Winnie the Pooh Suite", with the titles of the individual movements referring to characters from A. A. Milne's books. Now, copyright o...

Re: Liszt - À la chapelle sixtine, S.461
Thanks for clearing that up, Davydov. I just submitted the Jadassohn Fantasia (on Wagner's "Fliegende Holländer") but put it under "arrangements" in the Wagner page. I guess it should have its own page instead. The Wagner opera pages contain several more works (potpourris, fantas...

Re: Liszt - À la chapelle sixtine, S.461
The problem with arrangements embedded in original works isn't exclusive to Liszt. I'm currently scanning some piano Fantasias based on Wagner operas, by composers (arrangers??) like Jadassohn and Kogel. I think we really need some standardization on where these scores have to go: the original opera...

Re: Liszt - À la chapelle sixtine, S.461
My guess is that it's because it's supposed to be not an original composition but a "collection" of two arrangements of pieces by Allegri and Mozart. But you're right, it's a gray area, since the piece bears an official S. number and it's mostly performed as a whole (the two parts run into...

Re: Titelouze, Magnificat tertii Toni
Versets, used in combination with gregorian chant aren't that rare in organ literature. It's a standard genre in baroque literature, be it (organ-)masses, hymns, versper chants etc. The basic principle was always gregorian chant alternating with organ versets, so that the choir would start with the ...

Re: What constitutes a new edition?
I'm not a copyright expert, but to my knowledge, a new edition of a work in the public domain doesn't change the copyright status of the work. It is and remains public domain, which means this new edition can be copied, uploaded etc. (prefaces and such excluded). That also means the source of a new ...
